Match report:

Billed as a big match; it turned into a thriller.  South batted first on a damp afternoon and, in hindsight, did well to get into the 40’s before losing a wicket – Taylor, having batted well, caught by a diving Parkin.  From then on wickets fell regularly, with Tait and Thomson (each with 3 wickets) bowling well.  Pressure from the other end, in the form of tight bowling from Thomas and Chilcott, also contributed.  A score of 100 looked gettable, with the sun coming out and the outfield getting quicker.  A shrewd decision by South to open with spin meant that East struggled to get runs and at 49 for 6 it looked like game over.  But Farley and Lines had a different plan, with Farley ticking over nicely and Lines crashing boundaries. They took East to 90 and it looked like East would stroll home.  But the spirit of the South shone through and East lost 4 wickets in the 90’s to finish all out for 98.  This was a game of differences: A wet start v. a sunny second half; South losing wickets after 40 v East losing wickets before 40; use of slow bowlers v use of medium pace.  But ultimately the difference between the sides was the will to win.  Well done the South. John Farley (East) and Pete Taylor (South) thoroughly deserved their man of the match awards.
